A Message From the Author
After working around the world in international home economics for many years, I was familiar with many interesting textiles traditions. I loved exploring the fabric markets in Mali, and the shops in the back alleys of Hong Kong. I returned home with textiles including hand woven and embroidered pieces from the mountains of Guatemala, embroidery from Mexico and the Philippines, old woolen blankets from Bolivia, appliqué from Thailand and Egypt and wonderful old embroidery from China. As I saw various cultures, I found wonderful textile craftsmanship, colors and methods of manufacture. I was not expecting to find the amazingly rich heritage of textiles that I saw when I moved to Pakistan in 1996. There were patterned carpets, pillows, tablecloths, and tents not to mention the wonderful variety of colors, pattern and textures in women's clothing and shawls. I became fascinated with the quilts of the region. After years of research, in 2003, I published the only book on the subject entitled "Ralli Quilts: Traditional Textiles from Pakistan and India."
I hope the quilts at RalliQuilt.com can bring some of the pleasure and enjoyment to your life as they have to mine. I try to choose styles and colors that fit with various tastes in the best quality possible. I hope you can find some “treasures” to fit your life! In addition, I try to find communities where income from the sale of these textiles can help improve the quality of life and education of some otherwise poor communities.
